What’s Inside? Whether you need a baby gift or just want an easy sewing project, this baby burp cloth pattern can be sewn quickly and turns out so cute! A fun and quick sewing pattern to try.

I’ve said it before and it’s still true-while on the one hand summer is slower paced and allows me to do things like sleep in a little and sit in the pool, it’s also been so busy that I don’t feel like I can get anything done! There’s not a ton of time for the things I normally do.

Which is why this burp cloth pattern and sewing tutorial from Kim at Sweet Red Poppy is perfect if you need a quick and easy sewing project! And if you’re like me, that’s exactly what you need!

Baby Burp Cloth Pattern

Here’s Kim!

Easy Baby Burp Cloth Pattern:

Hi, It’s Kim from the sewing blog Sweet Red Poppy and I’m super excited to share this quick and easy tutorial with you today!! Burp clothes are one of my favorite things to sew whenever I’m expecting a baby or attending a baby shower. This tutorial is incredibly easy, which makes it perfect for the beginning seamstress or anyone with a time crunch!

Instead of finishing the seams or turning the fabric inside out like you normally would, the fabric is cut to create a frayed look which will gradually increase with each wash. This really simplifies the process, making this the ideal pattern for a quick sew! If you haven’t noticed by now, I love making baby patterns! This pattern pairs perfectly with my Top Knot Baby Hat, Baby Blocks, and Easy Baby Bib pattern. If you or someone you know is expecting, this is the perfect pattern to sew for the new baby, because you can never have enough burp cloths!

Supplies Needed:

  • 1/2 yard quilting cotton
  • 1/2 yard flannel
  • Matching thread

Sewing Instructions:

Begin by printing off the pattern. You’ll need to download this file. Print two pattern pieces and tape them together connecting the triangles. Pin the pattern piece to the fabric. Each bib will require one layer of flannel and one layer of cotton. Cut out the fabric and lay the two pieces of fabric with wrong sides together.

How to make baby burp cloths

Pin around the edges of the burp cloth. Now, you will be sewing the front and back together with a 3/8th’s inch seam allowance. I use this seam allowance because it allows me to line up the edge of the fabric with my presser foot. Don’t forget to backstitch where you begin and end!

Once you have sewn the burp cloth closed you will be clipping into the raw edge of the fabric to help it fray. Cut close to, but not through the stitching every 1/4 inch all the way around the burp cloth.

Simple Burp Cloth Patterns

Once you have cut all the way around the burp cloth throw it in the dryer to fluff up the edges.I used the “On Trend” fabric collection from Riley Blake to create these adorable burp cloths.

Don’t forget to pin this tutorial, so you can come back to it later!

If you enjoyed this tutorial, I’d love it if you stopped by my blog to check out my other tutorials

This looks so easy and fun. Is the quilting cotton the back othe burp cloth or inserted between the front and back piece?
    Thanks

I’m so happy to see this post. My “to do” list today has burp clothes and bibs on it for a baby shower tomorrow. (Last minute rush for me.) I’ve been making these for years, but your version is so much quicker and cuter! . Thank you!

Love the fabrics. Are they from a collection? What is the name of the fabric?

Those were just random fabrics from my stash of scraps. 🙂
