Peppermint Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

These double chocolate peppermint cookies are so amazing-I just have to share! They came from a recipe that I found online during a random search one day years ago, and they are my standard go to ever since. I’ve tweaked them just a bit for this version. The best part is, you can spruce them up in a many different ways and they always taste great.

Chocolate peppermint cookie recipe

Peppermint Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 cups chocolate chips or M&M’s

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine sugars and butter (I prefer to melt my butter at least until it is very soft first) and mix well. Add eggs and cocoa and mix again. Add salt, soda, vanilla and flour. Then add your chocolate chips (or whatever you decide to throw in). I also add just a little bit of milk, probably about 2 Tbsp. and then up the flour about 1/4 C to make them extra chewy. But you don’t have to do this, they will be great either way.

I usually do cookie dough blobs that are about an inch to an inch and a half big, but they also turn out great if you make them even bigger. Bake for approximately 9-10 minutes. They are best if they are still a little bit soft.

(I always use a Slipat mat when baking cookies. One of my VERY favorite kitchen gadgets.)

Other than following the basic recipe, which tastes great as is, you can also try the following:

**Substitute 1 Tbsp vanilla instead of the peppermint extract for just chocolate chocolate chip cookies

Or try adding:
Reese’s Pieces or PB chips
A combo of chocolate and butterscotch chips
Christmas M&Ms with the peppermint extract substitution
A combo of white chips, milk chocolate chips and toffee bits

  1. I absolutely LOVE this basic recipe. It’s one of my favorites. We make them every December and eat them with peppermint ice cream while watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” together as a date/FHE after Cal is in bed. I will have to try putting new stuff IN them. Yum!
