What’s the Project? These easy French beignets taste amazing and are super simple to make, but the best part is that they are filled with Nutella for a sweet surprise!
Thank you to Rhodes Bake N Serv for sponsoring this post.
How many movies have a scene filmed at the base of the Eiffel Tower, the lights twinkling in the background as the sun sets over the Seine river? It’s a classic scene from any love story…and last week it was mine!
I’ve dreamed for years of traveling to Europe and exploring the cities there and finally, we planned a trip (and took the whole family) this summer. We started our trip in London and then spent a few days in Paris and late one night after the kids were settled in, my husband and I took an electric scooter ride down the road where we stayed to the Seine river and watched the sunset and the lights of the Eiffel Tower come on and yes, it was as magical as it sounds.
Since Paris is fresh on my mind, this recipe is inspired by the dessert filled streets of that city and the foods we ate there. These are Nutella filled French beignets and the best part…they’re really easy to make!
You know I love using Rhodes dough for baking because it’s not only easy (just pull the dough out of the freezer and let it thaw and you’re all set?! Yes, please!) but it also tastes great and my whole family loves it.
So these French beignets are made using Rhodes Bake N Serv Frozen Dinner Rolls and take 20-30 minutes to make is all. Perfect for a brunch or a fun dessert party!
French Beignets Recipe:
The last day that we were in Paris it was 100 degrees and humid and we had no options but to pull our luggage to the train station to store and then trudge around the city melting in the heat. Let’s just say that moods weren’t the greatest.
Then we found a cute little Parisian cafe and it was air-conditioned so we settled in for a long, yummy lunch! I wasn’t going to leave Paris without trying hot chocolate (my love of hot chocolate runs very deep) even though it was so hot, so we ordered hot chocolate for everyone and a round of French beignet that happened to be filled with Nutella.
So even if you can’t go to Paris today and even if you think it’s too hot to drink hot chocolate right now, at least you can have these fabulous beignets!
Easy Nutella Filled French Beignet Recipe
Ingredients
- 12 Rhodes Bake N Serv Frozen Dinner RollsNutella spreadPowdered sugarVegetable oilPastry bag or Ziploc Pastry tip any size or shape
Instructions
- Take your Rhodes Bake N Serv Frozen Dinner Rolls out of the freezer and allow them to thaw in a covered bowl for 3-4 hours. On the stove, heat up a small pan with about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat for about 15 minutes. You want it hot but not burning. If it starts to smell like fish (eww!) it’s too hot and you need to remove it and allow it to cool for a minute.Once your oil is ready, break each roll in half and roll it into a smaller ball. Drop a ball in your oil to test the temperature. It should start to cooking and bubble gently. Ideally, each beignet should take 4-5 minutes in the oil to cook through. Allow yours to cook. It should cook until it is golden brown. Pull it out and when it is cool enough, break it open and make sure the inside is cooked through. If not, you it needs to cook longer. This might mean your temperate is too high on your oil and it’s cooking too fast so you might need to turn it down a little bit. Once you are sure that your oil is the right temperature, begin cooking the little dough balls. Again, they should cook 4-5 minutes. Likely, they will rotate themselves as they cook, but if they don’t, use tongs to give them a little nudge so that all sides cook evenly. When they are golden brown, remove them from the oil and place them on a plate covered in paper towels to drain them and allow them to cool. Cool almost completely. As they cool, fill your pastry bag or a Ziploc (with a tiny bit of a corner snipped off) with a pastry tip (it really doesn’t matter what size or shape) and Nutella. Now it’s time to fill your beignets. I found that it worked best to create a small hole in the beignet first, then insert the pastry bag. Then simply squeeze for a second or two to add the Nutella. Repeat with all of the beignets. Top with sprinkled powdered sugar. Can be served immediately or set aside for a few hours.
These French beignets will be a sweet treat for us to remember our fun trip to Paris and great for you to pretend you are there too!
