You can never have enough bags can you? I’ve sewn a bunch before (see them all here) and I’m showing you a new one today. This Easy Tote Bag Pattern is very simple to sew and a very good beginning sewing project. I know some of you are looking to practice your skills. (Did you know I have a Learn to Sew Series?) I recommend trying this easy bag:
Seriously, you can make this!
Easy Tote Bag Pattern and Instructions:
- 1/2 yard of main fabric
- 1/8 yard of accent fabric
- 1/2 yard of inner fabric
- Fusible Fleece
Cut out the following pieces:
From the main fabric-2 pieces that are 12 inches wide and 13 inches long.
From accent fabric-2 pieces that are 12 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long.
From inner fabric 2 pieces that are 12 inches wide and 16 inches long.
From main fabric and inner fabric-one piece each that is 3 inches wide and 38 inches long.
Cut 2 pieces of fusible fleece that are 12 inches wide and 16 inches long and one piece that is 3 inches wide and 38 inches long.
Start out by sewing your accent piece to your main piece by placing right sides together and sewing along them:
Then iron it flat:
Turn it right side out, press it flat and top stitch along the edges.
Now, take your main pieces, put them right sides together and sew around three sides leaving the top (one of the 12 inch sides) open.
Do the same with your inner fabric.
Turn your inner fabric right side out and push it down inside your main fabric.
Stick your strap down between the two layers and leave the ends hanging out the edges like this:
Turn it all right side out, press the edges and then top stitch all the way around the top (closing the opening as you go). And that’s it. Hoping that was pretty easy?
