In the month of July I am going to give you several sewing tutorials that will take you under 10 minutes to make! I thought since it’s summer and it can be hard to find the time to sew, it would be fun to keep things super simple this month. This easy tutorial is a very simple pattern for kids belts:
I’m telling you, sewing projects don’t get a lot easier than this one.
Easy Kids Belts Tutorial:
Supplies Needed:
- Small strip of fabric
- 1 1/2 inch D rings
- Optional: use fusible fleece and adhere it to the back of your fabric strip if you want to add sturdiness
Instructions:
First, measure the kid whose waist you are making this for. I measured my 6 year old and his waist was about 23 inches. Add around 5-6 inches to that measurement and this will be the length for your belt.
So, cut a strip of fabric that is 3 inches wide and as long as you need for your child.
Fold the fabric so that right sides are together and sew up the long side. Then turn it right side out and press it flat:
On one end you are going to fold the fabric under about a half an inch and then fold it under again about a half an inch and sew it in place:
Now, flip the belt over so that you are working on the other side and slip your fabric through both of your D rings. Hem it again just like you did before, but with your D rings included in there this time:
That’s it! It was that simple. To use it you simple slide the end through both D rings:
And then turn it back over the first D ring and under the second:
So simple right?!
Watch for more simple sewing as the month continues!

When my son was a toddler I could only find 1 belt like this. (1982)
It was made with webbing and was easy to adjust to his skinny waist. Think you call it webbing material; learning to sew. :- )

Forgot to thank you for the directions especially because my toddler grandson has that tiny waist too. Thanks!
