Your post is wonderfully descript and thorough. Hope everyone who’s not getting a lot of visits is paying attention.

I’ve been noticing that most blog sites that I frequent now do things a little differently. Used to be that when you clicked on their link, the featured item would pop up. Now…..you go to their site and then must press a “to see (or read) more…..press here” link to actually see the item. I’m imagining that provides some type of system for bloggers to know which items people are more interested in. If they don’t click that second link – they know the reader isn’t interested in pursuing. Just my guess 🙂

One thing that REALLY irritates me is when a blogger doesn’t even mention what they’re posting. The e-mail arrives merely as a “here’s a project for today” and you have to take that extra step just to know what they’re featuring. More and more I find myself simply deleting those e-mails without even wondering what the featured item is and will probably just unsubscripe completely.

You have such a wide variety of projects and the photography is always well done. When I take photos of something I’ve made the lighting is always an issue. Will try using a white poster board as your suggested. Also – lots of background issues – who knew someone sat on the sofa (which you didn’t want in the photo anyway) and didn’t straighten out the cover? You sure know it when you look at the photo. There’s a LOT to taking a well lit, uncluttered photo and you’ve provided some valuable tips.

Bloggers conferences must be a lot of fun, in addition to providing tips & tricks. Crafters are good people!

Thank you so much for your post Amber, so many great suggestions. I especially liked the advice on photos. Mine are still very hit and miss right now but I’m having such fun learning 🙂 I do try to always use natural light when I can but that’s not always possible, such as when photographing organizing projects like the inside of cabinets. It’s then that I rely on my flash, and photo editing software, for help.

My tiny blog is so important to me because it’s given me back my voice, life had taken it away for a while there and I’m so grateful to have somewhere I can share my thoughts. Fellow bloggers have been so friendly and isn’t it cool to be able to tell others “I’m a blogger” Thank you again Amber, I’m off back to Pin & g+ this wonderful post. Sending hugs from the UK x

Thanks Amber, great information. I’m stuck on the image section as my blog is about leadership, management and public speaking. So it’s not as organic to images as… say crafts. I’d love to hear any thoughts you might have.
    Take Care, Teecy

Try something like graphic stock to get images (or take your own) of things that can fit. Somebody leading a discussion or a computer or that sort of thing.

I have felt like the ball in a pinball machine trying to follow advice I didn’t really understand. I am trying to build readership. This whole expand your blog readership (and like what you are doing) has been and still is a huge learning curve. This was very helpful. Why? You have clearly written with succinct descriptive subpoints. I could actually grasp what you were conveying! Looking forward to reading more of these posts.

I hit the jack pot stumbling across your post. It is stocked full of great tidbits that are easy to understand and follow. I like how you gave comparisons and showed that you too were at a starting point but figured out how to improve. I’m excited to try putting the white poster board behind my photos. There’s too much goodness in here to remember at once so I’ll be pinning it so I can come back. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Thank you so much for these tips! I’ve been struggling with increasing page views, and your tips are extremely thorough. I really appreciate that. I found myself nodding at so many of them! I really like the roundup idea, and also attending a blog conference. I’ve only gotten serious about expanding my reach in the last few months (before it was just a personal thing), so I’m definitely still learning. Thank you!

    Fantastic post!
I’ve been blogging for more than a year now and it took me a while to see my traffic moving. I’ll never expect to get the kind of traffic you get, but I think I can improve on a few point you made.
Getting traffic is a time consuming job, but it’s achieved by doing something I love: sharing what I’m passionate about. So yes, it’s hard, but rewarding 🙂

    Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you very much for all these tips! I just started my blog about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been googling to get helpful tips for my blog and this post is definitely one of my favorites! I had a quick question… when you do roundups, do you let the bloggers of the original posts know in advance that you will be using their pictures and links? Again, thank you so much for sharing all the awesome tips!

I don’t, but some bloggers do. If you really want to cover your bases you should.
