Duck Hooded Towel Tutorial

I promised you 4 hooded towels in the month of March and you’re going to get it. We started the month with our Lion (since March comes in like a lion), then we had a bunny for Easter. Today I’ve got another one for Easter. We need a duck hooded towel.

This is actually the first hooded towel I ever made years and years ago. But I admit, it’s not my favorite so I haven’t done a tutorial on it yet. But my 1 year old is obsessed with ducks, so I don’t know what kept me from doing it! He’s thrilled that he gets to have this towel.

Supplies Needed:

1 yellow bath towel

1 yellow hand towel

1 orange hand towel

Small amounts of white and black fabric

Heat N Bond

Instructions:

As always, for the basic hooded towel instructions refer to my hooded towel post. Here I will teach you to make the face.

Start out by cutting your yellow hand towel in half horizontally. Fold the selvage edge under about 3 inches and stitch in place:

Flip your towel over and work on the other side now. Cut out your eyes from fabric and heat n bond. Iron them in place where you want them and then applique around the eyes:

Now cut out your beak from your orange towel-2 pieces. Using a tight applique stitch make two little duck nostrils on one piece. You’ll probably need to go over them a couple of times:

Then put right sides of the beak together and sew them around all sides except the flat part. Turn it right side out and then zig zag it in place below the eyes:

Now you just need to fold the towel in half so that the right sides are together. Zig zag up the raw edges on the back (more on that in the hooded towel post) . My little guy was pretty excited about this duck hooded towel. In this picture he’s actually reaching out of the towel and pointing to it and saying “duck.” Pretty fun! And great for Easter!
