When March came in like a Lion (Hooded Towel) I hinted that you’d see something fitting for the end of the month. It’s not hard to guess. March is going out like a… Lamb Hooded Towel!
I don’t know. Is your weather lamb like? I hope so. This could also be a great towel for Easter to go along with the bunny and the duck.
Lamb Hooded Towel Tutorial:
Supplies Needed:
1 White Bath Towel
1 White Hand Towel
Pink hand towel (pieces of it) or pink fleece or fabric
Small amount of black fabric
Heat N Bond
Instructions:
This tutorial will teach you to make the head. For instructions on how to sew the actual towel part and attach the head, read my hooded towel post.
Start out by cutting your hand towel in half horizontally.
Fold under the selvage edge about 3 inches or so. Stitch it in place.
Now turn it over and work on the underside.
For the nose I simply satin stitched (tight zig zag) a V shape:
Cut out your eyes from the black fabric. Add heat n bond to the bottom of them and iron them in place:
Then applique around them with a tight zig zag stitch.
Now cut out your ears from the rest of the white hand towel. You will need 4 ear pieces. (If you don’t trust yourself to cut ears, use the ears from the teddy bear hooded towel pattern.)
Also cut out an inner ear piece for each ear from pink towel or fabric. Sew the inner ear piece to the white ear piece. Then with right sides together sew around the ears leaving the bottom open. Turn them right side out:
Now decide where you want your ears and cut a little slit in your towel:
Poke your ear through. It should look like this on the bottom: Sew that opening closed and trim off excess ear on the bottom side. Do that with both ears.
Now to form the hood, fold the towel in half so that the face is on the inside and zig zag up the back of the raw edges:
Then turn your hood like this:
And sew a straight line across the tip and snip it off:
Now your hood is done! Just attach it and you’re all set!
Be sure to check out all of the hooded towels for babies and toddlers. There’s a bunch!

I’m loving these hooded towels, cant wait to make one. One question though, for small children (one year olds), do you change the dimensions (half the towel)? I am making this for a friend’s little girl and have no children of my own so I cant judge size. Thanks!

Nope-keep it the same. That’s what makes the so nice is that they are roomie

Having difficulty understanding what you mean with the ears on the tutorial. I have my first ear going – I have sewn two white pieces together and don’t really understand how I get the pink attached. Do you sew through all three layers and then turn right side out? Thanks!

I usually do the pink before sewing the two whites together.
