I’ve been married for 13 years and I’ve got 4 kids. It’s not like I am new to this adulthood, motherhood, homemaker thing, and yet it was only 3 years ago that we bought our first house and really settled down. We spent the first 2 years of marriage with my husband finishing his undergraduate degree, 5 more years for him to get his PhD and then 3 years doing a postdoc, so we JUST started officially being big kids with our own house and everything.
Now let me tell you that when we moved into this house we had a cute little Christmas tree that we bought about 5-6 years ago when we lived in a townhouse. When we bought it we thought it was great. It was narrow enough to fit in the space we needed it to fit in, it was pre-lit and seemed like a nice tree. We have enjoyed many years with that tree.
When we moved into this house and put it up for the first time…I was a little surprised and disappointed by how small it looked in our new space. And then my kids decorated it with their cute little ornaments, which I truly love because they are sentimental and fun, but it wasn’t the prettiest tree. I would go to friends’ houses and see their pretty trees all decorated beautifully and I started to wish for a big girl tree.
Well guess, what? Mama just got a big girl tree!
I am SO excited about this tree! It arrived on my doorstep last Friday morning and I put it up immediately. I was loving it the whole time I put it up (very easy to put up and turned out so pretty). Then we went and put up the kid’s tree in another room (see-I am a good mom-they still get their tree, mama just gets her own tree this year too) and when my kids saw their tree after seeing this new one, even they noticed the difference. This new tree is amazing!
Christmas Tree Details:
Here’s the tree that I got:
This tree is from Home Depot. It’s pre lit and breaks into 4 pieces. The pieces easily slide into each other as you put it together and light up as they go. It is 9 feet tall and I feel like it looks very full and natural. (They have shorter versions if you need a smaller one. See all of the Martha Stewart Living trees here.)
I also had fun picking out big girl decorations for my tree. Here are a few of the highlights.
I love these large candy canes that I got from the dollar store:
I got a combination of red, silver and white glittery ornaments and some smaller candy canes:
Also a variety of red and silver balls. In the Christmas floral department I got sprigs of silver and red that I stuck throughout the tree to add color. I also added ribbon.
I am so happy to have finally made the choice to get a nice tree. It makes my home feel so nice and Christmasy and I know we will treasure it for years to come.
I also grabbed some matching garland that I will be hanging both inside my house and out:
Here you can see I added it above a doorway in my house. This is in my entry way and I LOVE how it adds a festive touch first thing when you walk in!
And we got some fun lights for outside the house:
I will be sure to show you pictures of those when I get them up!
