Which Apples to Use in Baking:
I did a little research to help you out before you make these apple recipes. What apples should you be using to bake these yummy treats? Some of that is personal preference and taste, but these apples have been found to be great options for baking.
Generally speaking, you are going to be best off with an apple that has a tartness to it to counter the sweetness of your recipe as well as an apple that won’t get mushy when you cook.
- Jonagold
- Honeycrisp (my personal favorite)
- Granny Smith
- Braeburn
- Pink Lady
- Gala
- Cortland
Of course, each of these apple recipes might taste better with different types of apples, but you can use this as a general guideline.

Great baked apples! Very simple and delicious. Some people mentioned having to put a little bit of water in the bottom of the pan, I used apple juice. I also had to bake them longer. These are WONDERFUL topped with a dollup of creme fraiche! A great end to a fall meal.
