I want to tell you a story. A really good story. One day last month I received a text from a friend. She said “something’s on your doorstep.” I opened the door and there I found a bouquet of flowers and a gift bag. I took it inside, intrigued. It wasn’t my birthday or anything. What was this? I opened the gift bag and inside I found a wooden box with an engraved initial (mine) and inside that box I found a bunch of letters, notes and cards written by all of my friends. They each shared something that person loved about me or other kind sentiments (almost felt like hearing my own funeral!). You can imagine how I felt about this. Completely mind blown first of all that someone, or all of these someones would do this for me. Confused about why they would do this for me. But mostly just completely happy and loved. It was amazing!
You know this feeling right? The feeling of gratitude and happiness when something does something kind for you? It can be as simple as a compliment or a smile or a friendly hello. It can be someone remembering your birthday, calling or stopping by to see you, baking you a special treat. The little things matter.
Do Something Challenge:
As part of my blog goals for 2015 and my new slogan (Bake. Sew. Create. Give. Love. Live!) I want to spend some time in 2015 focusing on the Give part. Giving feels good. Really good. Can we make it a goal together that we want to Give more in 2015?
In honor of this for the month of April I want to issue my readers a challenge. I want us to get out and Do Something! Do something kind for others.
So here’s the challenge. Each Thursday throughout the month of April would you take the time to Do Something kind for someone else? Something above and beyond what you normally do? It doesn’t have to be major, it can be simple and small. Just do something to make a difference for someone.
Think of our collective power if we all do that!
- Take someone a treat
- Write someone a note
- Say thanks to someone
- Make someone dinner
- Take a friend to lunch
- Remember someone’s birthday
- Bring someone flowers
- Pay for someone in the drive through
- Clean someone’s house or do a chore for them
- Run an errand for someone
- Offer to babysit
The list could go on! Just do something!
And to help spread the love even more, I’d love to see some people post on social media and use the hashtag #dosomethingthursdays (and please tag me too so I can see it!). The more people we can get on board, the more love we can spread!
Who’s with me?
