Ooooh I am so excited about this one. We are celebrating a birthday in our house this week and I wanted to do something fun to surprise my little guy. I feel a little bit crazy because what kind of mom gives their kid this much candy, but I know he will LOVE it (and I will make him eat the candy in moderation). It’s a Candy Birthday Cake!
Seriously excited for him to see this! It will be sitting on the kitchen table when he wakes up on his birthday!
Want to make one? They really aren’t hard and they are a perfect gift not only for kid but for coworkers, friends, teenagers, whoever!
Candy Birthday Cake Tutorial:
- 2 or 3 Hat Boxes (You can get them at the craft store.)
- Candy of all varieties (Mine took 7 large boxes of candy for the bottom, about 18 Airheads for the second tier, a bag of smarties and about 20 dum dums) I recommend candy that won’t melt since you will be hot gluing.
- Large bow
- Hot Glue
Start out with your hat boxes. You won’t need the lids so you can toss those aside. Then turn them upside down to work with:
Begin hot gluing candy around the bottom layer (your larger hat box), so that the bottom of the candy box is flush with the bottom (which is actually the top since you have it upside down) of your hat box:
Glue all the way around.
Do the same thing with the candy for the second tier. I used Airheads and they worked great but you can use anything you want.
Once I had the Airhead layer ready I spread some hot glue on the bottom box and attached the second tier to it. Go ahead and add a third tier too if you want!
Then, I used the Airheads layer as sort of a bowl and just poured the bag of Smarties right inside:
And then stuck Dum Dums down in it all around the edge.
And topped with a bow (I just placed it on-I didn’t secure it at all).
I am SO excited about this! I might start giving these to people for birthdays more often!
