I can’t remember when it started, but early in our marriage my husband started making crepes for me for breakfast on all the big days…Mother’s Day, our anniversary, Valentine’s day. And he’s quite the crepe chef. He makes them all pretty and fancy and full of things that make them more of a dessert than a hearty breakfast and that’s just what I like.
I thought it would be fun to do a full blown dessert crepe bar with some friends complete with all the fixings. Turns out it was a huge hit!
Just looking at these pictures is making me hungry again!
DIY Crepe Bar Recipes & Ideas:
We started out with some crepe mix from World Market:
I also grabbed some nice white serving plates and bowls and things to put this all together. I love their clean and classy white dishes. They made for a very pretty spread, as you can see. You can also serve them with some French themed paper cups, plates and napkins.
Crepe Topping Ideas:
I got a little wild and crazy with the toppings. Here’s some of what I used:
Fruit (peaches, strawberries and bananas):
Those are just a few of the options I had but really you could get anything! Here’s a list of more ideas:
- Chocolate filling: Mousse, ice cream or pudding
- Cheesecake filling or cheesecake pudding
- Crushed candy: Reese’s, Heath Bar, M &M’s
- Mini Marshmallows
- Fruit: Strawberries, bananas, blueberries, peaches, raspberries
- Whipped topping (for the inside OR the top. Or both)
- Ice cream in any flavor
- Lemon Juice
- Powdered Sugar
- Mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings
- Peanut Butter
- Hot Fudge or chocolate sauce
Crepe Recipe Ideas:
As I shopped for toppings I brainstormed a few combinations that sounded good.
My favorite of course is a nice Reese’s Peanut Butter & Chocolate Crepe:
Reese’s Crepe Recipe:
1 crepe filled with chocolate ice cream (or other chocolate filling although I definitely recommend the chocolate ice cream). Roll the crepe up and then sprinkle it with crushed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and powdered sugar. Top with whipped topping and then drizzle with chocolate sauce and peanut butter. (Just melt the peanut butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds.)
Peaches ‘N’ Cream Recipe:
1 crepe filled with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and a few peaches. Roll and top with additional peaches (or add strawberries) and whipped topping.
Cookies ‘N’ Cream Recipe:
1 crepe filled with vanilla pudding or whipping cream. Sprinkle with crushed Oreos and then roll it up. Drizzle with hot fudge or chocolate sauce, sprinkle with more Oreos and powdered sugar. Add a little peanut butter too for extra fun!
OK, those are just three ideas, but you get the picture. Get a bunch of toppings and let your guests go crazy!
