Welcome to Crazy Little *Kids* Project Thursday!
My 8 year old (he’s 8 now-had a birthday last week) is going to show us his stuff again this week. He was the creator of the Light Sabers for kids last month. This month he wants to teach you to paint your own plates. And guess what? These ones are food safe!
He’s so proud of these.
Or you could paint cups.
Paint Your Own Plates:
DecoArt’s Paint Markers (can be found at Michael’s)
A clear plate (I think we got ours at Target but I have seen them at hobby stores in the glass section, Walmart, etc.)
This is fairly self explanatory but there are a few things to note:
- Paint the BOTTOM of the plate. That is what makes this food safe. Because it is clear, your painting will show through.
- BUT, because you are painting the bottom, realize that you need to mirror image anything you are doing. This is easy with pictures since they can go either direction, but wording can be tricky.
With these markers you just push on them to get the paint flowing and then draw with them like normal.
Now, once you are done painting, allow to air cure for approximately 8 hours then bake at 375°F for 40 minutes for a dishwasher-safe finish.
That’s it! Just make sure that you aren’t painting on surfaces where food will touch as they are not intended for food. Just paint on the outside or bottom of clear glass.
And join me and my kids each Thursday for craft projects FOR kids created BY kids.
