Happy Pi Day! Did you know that it’s Pi Day? Do you know why it’s Pi Day? I’m married to a science nerd (he’s a chemist), so I know why it’s Pi Day. What’s the date today? 3/14. Or 3.14 if you will. Pi. (Or the start of it anyway.) In honor of Pi Day why not make your family pie for dessert tonight? And impress them with your knowledge of things like Pi. Or at least with your baking.

I’ve rounded up 10 of the best unsual pie recipes I could find. You’ll notice that they’re not all the classics-these are pies with a twist (and most of them involve chocolate, because after all, why wouldn’t you want chocolate?)

    I’ve been interested in baking for 2 years, with some successes, equal amount of failures, but hasn’t yet stopped me from forging ahead to be creative with the fantastic. I have just made a ” Beet Pie ” as when at my girlfriends house she had made a family tradition beet-pie, though the recipe was in her lovely head, it was never put down on paper. I could have eaten only that whole pie, skipping the turkey, green bean salad, all the other delicious foods available at a thanksgiving dinner. Here in Eureka, Ca. at a pie contest to benefit people with disabilities I substituted tangerines/zest for the lemons in a lemon pie recipe, I won first place in the fruit pie category, second place for over-all. I have a janitorial business, that I take all my sweet treats to offer all the office folks in the building, today at 3:00 PM. I like your ” crazylittle projects ” it caters to my quirky view of life, of doing something off the charts from all things culinary.
