What’s the Project? Looking for a little inspiration to set up a fabulous craft space? These 15 amazing craft room ideas are going to get you started on designing a great craft area in your home from storage to organization, decorating and more.
Guys-I am SO excited! For years I have dreamed of having my own craft room or creative space. And then I started a creative blog and it just makes sense that I should have a craft room.
But guess what? I have a very large walk in closet and that’s where I store all my craft stuff and honestly where I do a lot of my crafting too. (Did you know I sew on the floor? I might be getting a little old for that. It’s starting to hurt!)
But now we are going to finish our basement and a BIG part of it is going to be a creative space for me.
So, I needed to look around a little for some craft room inspiration and figured as long as I am looking, I might as well share some of it with you! So here’s 15 craft rooms to inspire you (and me)!
And as we get going on building this craft room I will share the process with you! And you better believe I will show you the final product in the end!
But for now, here’s some craft room ideas to get you (and me) started creating a craft room of your dreams!
Craft Room Ideas & Inspiration:
This one is technically an office, but it’s the idea I want to use in my craft room. A long table built into the wall for plenty of work space with shelving above it for craft storage. Lots of work space, lots of storage space and I love the colors! By Interiors by Nanette:

I recently moved into a new house and had to start my organization from scratch. Exciting but intimidating! These ideas are great! I want to add some color with a rug on my floor, otherwise my room is pretty much just gray and white with a touch of pink in my accessories. Since I got rid of my organization items in the move, I’ve had to come up with some new ideas. I saw an idea to use paper CD cases to store embellishments and was surprised as to how simple it was. Now I can easily see what I have and what not to buy more of.

Good luck with all of your organizing!

Thank you so much Amber for sharing this. When we get a newer home my husband said we are getting a 3 bedroom so you can finally have a craft room. Your ideas are some of the best ones I’ve seen ☺ and I’ve pinned a lot. I have 2 nephews that are 10 and 8 and they love doing crafts with me. I’m so excited and hope you have got to do yours💗
Amber says
Hope you get that craft room soon! You deserve it!

Hey, thought I would post something on this subject. I have been fortunate to have a designated room for my crafting, for quite sometime. However it was never decorated like any of these. I just wanted it organized so I could do what I love most. So I emptied the room, did some purging, painted a nice pale pink. But putting everything back, plus giving it style has been really hard. Ive spent two weeks trying to accomplish the look , that I see all over pinterest. NOT HAPPENING!!!!! It is looking cleaner though. So girls, hang in there. It’s going to happen, I know it. I have used so many ideas that Ive picked up from Pinterest, but it still looks cluttered.

Soooo…. inquiring minds want to know. What happened with your craft room? Did it get finished and moved into? Looked for pics, but couldn’t find any….
Thanks for the inspiration!!

Oh my gosh! Thanks for asking! I KEEP meaning to post it and I swear I will soon!

Is there a post yet for the room?? 🙂
Amber says
Oh man! I was just thinking today that I need to do it!

I love all the idea. The pegboard photo is my favorite because the older Kenmore machine on the right is the same as mine. I got it when I graduated from design school from my Mom. I had been using one of her old machines while in school. The thing is that was 1977 when I got that Kenmore, and now its 2017 and I have NEVER had to have it serviced. Just regular oiling and keeping it covered. I’ve used tor everything you can imagine. A testament to quality machines. One of my high school friends has had to replace her machine 4 times in the same amount of years.

I am at the same place you are. Gathering ideas for my craft room. We moved into a new house a year and a half ago, no kids left home, long story short we were downsizing….lol from a three bedroom one bath to a five bedroom three bath house. Any…way…I have a quarter of the finished basement to set up my ‘stuff.’ Problem is I do a little of a lot. Decoupage, sewing, paint projects, planting fun hobbies. Only two things I don’t care for and that’s quilting 😿 And scrap booking 😼 . Although I’ve done both. So can’t wait to see what you end up with.
Amber says
Are you having luck? Mine is all done just needs to be moved into and I can’t figure out how I want it!

I’m a little late to this party but I’m very curious to see what you come up with. We hope to finish out our basement in the coming year so I’ll be checking back for inspiration!

I’m about to move back into my own home after four years of renting and setting up my sewing room is a high priority. I’d like a long narrow table for the machine and overlocker and then a table in the middle for cutting out. I love the soft green walls in the first photo and the peg board organiser. Here is also a wardrobe in the room that I would like to fit out for storage. So much inspiration! Thank you.

Hi I’m also trying to set up a craft room, it’s not very big but it would just be nice to have a proper place for all my crafts. What’s your thoughts on lighting? I need something bright, not sure what would be best to use.
Amber says
I was wondering that too. I think I might do can lights in the ceiling and then some recessed lighting under cabinets.

Hi! Amber, it is so exciting that you are getting your own craft room. I have my own craft room in my daughter’s old bedroom, when she moved out.
I love having my long table under the window for lots of natural light. I also have a large book shelf that she left me and put my containers, {that are in glass} on it, books for homemade patterns and bins in it.
I have a wood shelf that has space on it for spools of threads and bobbins underneath it on nails, so convenient. Her husband made that for me along with a shelving unit with small cubby holes in it for my baskets that hold all my stamps and things for creating all my homemade cards. I have another smaller table at that end of the room.
Can’t wait to see what you do with your room, although I don’t have instragram.

I have a problem with needing to keep my craft room at the ready for visitors, extra ones. The kids and grands are taken care of, even the occasional visit of great grandparents have a room 😜. But somebody always brings home another body, so I need just was about to add a big working desk, for 4 or so work around, and now I have a full size bed in there and no room to even paint. Is a trundle on the ceiling safe? I realize that until I feel at ease to say enough is enough, someone is the floor my craft room will continue to be in packing boxes and I will paint and bead all over the house. But I enjoy watching your post and living vicariously through you!
Stevonna N. says
Have you thought about a murphy bed? It’s an option that allows space when needed. They even make murphy bed cabinets, about the size of a dresser.

Nice! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I love all the photos of the very organized craft rooms. I have a very bad habit of throwing scraps and leftover yardage to the side of my table or on the floor, and I end up with a big mess. I get so excited by a new project, any thoughts of organization fly out of my head. I have a large part of our basement, but it was carpet (good to keep the feet warm in the winter but a mess to keep little pieces of thread from weaving themselves into it. I would love to rip it all out and start over with a clean bright palette but my better half doesn’t think it’s important. Good lighting is another necessity. Can’t have too much light while crafting.
Amber says
I’ve been trying to decide whether to carpet it or something else, so that’s helpful!!
Valerie Foerster says
I have a short pile indoor/outdoor type carpet and I hate it. Wish I had vinyl or painted concrete.

Me too but what if you want a small but open space for your craft room? Do you have any ideas? Sorry I’m really late commenting.

I’m thinking of converting my dining room into a craft room, we always eating the kitchen. Working on hubby at the moment, lol.
Amber says
Good luck with that 😉
Ranedae says
I can’t afford to rip out all the carpet so I found rubber matting at less than $3/sq ft. I’m just going to vacuum the carpet well and lay down the mats right on top. Easy to maintain and find tiny needless!
Amber says
Great idea!
Connie says
Would love to know where you found the rubber matting. Please let me know. I’m in the same boat in that I cant afford to rip out the carpet, nor do I have time for all that construction in my sewing room, which is my bonus room over the garage.
Stevonna N. says
You can find rubber matting at home construction stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, True Value, or Menards. And there’s always the option of googling and doing price comparisons before spending a bunch of money.
