I am still working on what I am calling The Great Bedroom Makeover and definitely still have a long ways to go, but this week added something very new and different to my bedroom:
Please tell me you like that. Because I love it. But, hubby’s initial reaction was not the overwhelming awe and love that I expected but more of a “well gee, that’s awfully bright….but you sure did a beautiful job painting.”
It’s true. It is bright (I can’t quite get the pictures to capture it’s full color and brightness) and so far all we have in there is a now painted black dresser, a newly painted black bed and soon to be painted black night stands, so it sort of stands out like a sore thumb. I need to pull in more color definitely but that is coming.
How to Refinish a Desk:
This desk was a steal of a deal. I got it from the classifieds for $100 which I thought was fantastic! It’s solid oak and in great condition. It was pretty to start out with:
I could tell it had once been stained, then black, then white. Now turquoise.
I didn’t have to change the hardware or anything and really I could have used it as it was. But where’s the fun in that?
So I painted it. I got one of these babies for my birthday so I decided to do a little sanding too to get rid of some of the previous layers of paint. And then I painted two layers. Pretty easy. I started Tuesday and finished Thursday.
If you want to try this project-refinishing a desk or other furniture-without sanding, I recommend getting Zinsser primer (you can get it at Walmart or a paint store). Paint a coat of that on and then paint. SO easy. (See how I did that on this dresser.)
That’s Benjamin Moore Baby Boy Blue paint on it.
Now, I need to decide what other colors to incorporate into my room and what to hang on the wall above it. Ideas? And, what color chair should I do to go with it?
